OLDER NEWS
HEARTSFIELD LIVE AT FITZGERALD'S 9/11/99
First, I want to thank everyone who came to the second live Heartsfield concert of this decade. I'm certain you know by now, that the "new" Heartsfield led by the one and only Perry Jordan is really something special. Each of the new musicians, while keeping the honesty and integrity of the old songs in tact, adds their individual interpretation on vocal and instrumental stylings. Dave brings Dobro to the line-up; Tim picks a mean mandolin and blows a powerful harmonica; and J.B. can do some fancy pickin' on the banjo. Also, Tim, Dave and J.B. trade off licks and all can rip off some exciting electric guitar leads. Steve's bass lines are punchy and creative and Scott is solid as a rock on drums, while being fluid enough to keep the music rolling. While all of this is going on, Perry reminds you how much he loves his new Guild acoustic/electric (sorry, P.J., I couldn't resist!). Everyone except Scott sings and when all five harmonize together it puts shivers up your spine!

Next, I want to say, shame on all of you who kept buying me Coronas all night. It seemed as soon as I finished one, a new fresh one appeared in my hand. I have to say I paid for it on Sunday!! In answer to those who asked me to put in print what I said when I announced the band (by the way, I didn't have any Coronas before I went up there so I was relatively coherent!), here it is:

I started in the retail record business about 20 years ago. One thing that became obvious was that FM rock album artists were constantly ignored by their labels, due to lack of hits and Billboard charting singles. Hell, The Grateful Dead only had six charting singles during their 30 year career and only one ever got above #64! Yet, the major labels judged artists by this criteria. When they didn't hit, the albums were taken out of print, regardless of a fair amount of fans and sales. One of the groups that had no albums in print and was constantly in demand by my customers was HEARTSFIELD! I probably sold a thousand of their used albums to my retail customers over the years.

As my store grew more successful and CD's became the new format, these artists were again ignored by their original labels. We had this crazy idea that maybe we should start a record label and get some of this wonderful music on CD for the fans.

This was the birth of BEDROCK RECORDS. We chose this name because "Bedrock" is defined as "the solid rock foundation from which all things are based." And tonight you will get some SOLID COUNTRY ROCK, led by our Pied Piper of Good Time Music, PERRY JORDAN. This man has written, recorded and sung some of the best country rock music ever recorded in the 70's.

And, don't think his creativity stopped back then. He is still writing songs, will perform some of those new ones for you tonight and plans to have a CD of new material next year. (I'll bet that new CD will end up on BEDROCK RECORDS!) Many of you are Heartsfield fans from the '70s and can say you were there at the beginning. And in the future, you will also be able to say you were there at the NEW beginning!

Without further delay, get out your foot stompin' shoes and let's have a big CHICAGO welcome for BEDROCK RECORDING ARTIST PERRY JORDAN and the new HEARTSFIELD!

Thanks and stay tuned for more e-mail news on everyone's favorite country rock band, Heartsfield!
